Reclaim, Restore, Return: Futurist Tales from the Caribbean

Published specially for the 2020 NGC Bocas Lit Fest, Reclaim, Restore, Return: Futurist Tales from the Caribbean is an e-book anthology of speculative fiction and poetry by seven Caribbean writers. Compiled and edited by Karen Lord and Tobias S. Buckell, and published by the Caribbean Futures Institute in partnership with the NGC Bocas Lit Fest, Reclaim, Restore, Return imagines possible futures for the Caribbean that should inspire us in the present.

“Beyond the premonitions of crises now unfolding,” writes Karen Lord, “and the déjà vu of continuing injustices, this collection contains a set of overarching themes that may provide the template for our nascent future…. They are a cycle of interacting and repeating actions that comprise an engine of progress.”

With writing by Tobias S. Buckell, Nalo Hopkinson, Karen Lord, Brandon O’Brien, Shivanee Ramlochan, Cadwell Turnbull, and Hadassah K. Williams. Available for FREE download, as part of your membership with Friends of Bocas!

Celebrating Black Britain: New Poems from Today's Black British Writers

Read a collection of new poems by today’s rich mix of Black British poets: Malika Booker, Richard Georges, Keith Jarrett, Hannah Lowe, Maureen Roberts and Roger Robinson.

The poems are accompanied by an article on the history of Black British publishing written by Roxy Harris and Sarah White of the George Padmore Institute – a London-based archive housing materials relating to the black community of Caribbean, African and Asian descent in Britain and continental Europe.

This was released in 2021 as part of the Celebrating Black Britain Series by Your Local Arena, in partnership with Bocas LitFest in Trinidad, celebrating the generations of people of African and Caribbean heritage living in Britain throughout the twentieth century.

In March 2020, physical schools in Trinidad and Tobago were closed to curb the spread of Covid-19 and classes moved online. Since then, the local corporate sector rallied together to make sure that no student was left behind, and our title sponsor NGC pledged $2 million in laptops and tablets to the Ministry of Education’s Adopt-a-School Initiative. The Bocas Lit Fest designed these vibrant wallpapers with inspirational book quotes for those laptops, and we invite you to download to share with the young people in your lives!
